Cosmo Pyke: Interview at Paradiso in Amsterdam
Studio Talks gained exclusive access to Cosmo Pyke’s backstage before his second sold-out show at Paradiso in Amsterdam on the 18th of April, 2024. Cosmo Pyke is English singer-songwriter from London known for his projects like, ‘A Piper For Janet’ and ‘Just Cosmo’. Andrej spoke to Cosmo Pyke about his European Tour.
How are your feelings about the tour and how is it going so far?
It's going really well. I’m having a fun time. Tonight is our last show before going back to England. We're doing two more shows with the band, but the tour across Europe has just been on my own, playing solo. It's been quite difficult, but also very fun and I had a good time. But I'm seriously shattered, very tired.
Do you have any memorable experience from any show you did during this tour?
Antwerp was beautiful, but last night was cool with the Dutch crowd. I was telling them that I've been to Amsterdam a few times and that my name is actually a Dutch name. Pyke translated into Snook from Dutch, S-N-O-E-K. So, I told them about my Dutch heritage, and they liked that.
So what is your favorite thing about touring when you're on tour?
Every day, we go to a new city, and we've been doing it all by train. So, we've just been sitting on the train, which is really relaxing, going through the German forests. And there are pubs on the train! It’s kind of like being in a flying pub, going to a different city every day, playing music. It's the best.
Did you also have the chance to visit some sites in Amsterdam?
We went to the red light district, but there weren’t any red lights; they’ve shut it down. I've been to the Van Gogh Museum before, so I didn't go this time. Apparently, the Anne Frank Museum is just a house, but I enjoyed chilling in the canals, watching the birds.
What is something you always have to have in your backstage?
Hummus! We've got hummus here.
What is one song, that is your number one listened-to this month?
I like this song; ‘Leopard-Skin Pill-box Hat’ by Bob Dylan.
